NEW CLASS SERIES: Astro-Mythography - Ancient Greek Mythology for Astrologers
Starting October 7, embark on a mythical journey designed to enrich your understanding of the archetypal stories that shape our lives and help you apply them to your astrological practice!
The Ancient Greeks inhabited a complex narrative web of divine mythology, where outrageously powerful gods experienced relatable relationship drama; titanic monsters mingled with shape-shifting tricksters; and witch queens and warriors navigated worlds where nothing was quite what it seemed. These figures inhabit the planets and stars, while their romances, battles, and wild transformations play out across the Zodiac. Tragic and comic, scandalous and sublime, their stories form the foundation of Western astrology as we practice it today.
In this yearlong, in-depth exploration, you’ll get to know a diverse pantheon of gods, goddesses, heroes, monsters, allies, lovers, and foes; and the magical world they share. Each class will focus on one planet or astrological sign, while exploring the interconnections that will deepen your oracular intuition. Together, we'll embark on a journey of cultural narrative, world-building, and community, while discovering the surprising resonance these ancient stories hold for contemporary life.
You’ll come away with a new perspective on the 12 astrological signs, the seven traditional planets, and the three outer planets through the lens of traditional mythology. This expanded understanding will help you see yourself, your loved ones, your clients, and the events of your life in a whole new light. Along the way, you’ll build meaningful friendships as you learn and grow with a supportive group of like-minded seekers.
Bring a deeper understanding of some of the richest and most enduring symbols to your divinatory toolkit. Whether you’re reading natal charts for yourself, friends, or clients, or turning to astrology for insight and guidance, these stories will add depth, clarity, and connection to your practice.
The class will draw on the work of Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic Greek authors, including Homer, Hesiod, Apollodorus, and Aeschylus, while building on the modern interpretive scholarship of Carl Jung, Carl Kerenyi, Robert Graves, Demetra George, Liz Greene, and Ariel Guttman. Alongside our extensive study of ancient texts, we’ll explore contemporary mythological scholarship, with particular attention to ecological and inclusive perspectives.
Study with Spencer and an intimate group of fellow seekers as you encounter, discuss, and deeply experience the lessons each story has to offer!
